  • Company profile of BIBUS SINDBY A/S

    BIBUS SINDBY A/S

BIBUS SINDBY A/S is a solid and well-consolidated import and trading company, with industry and the automotive sector as its two largest customer groups. In the more than 100 years the company has existed, a knowledge bank has been built up around the purchase and development of quality products primarily for industry. Common sense and quality are the key words for all actions in the company. We have been constantly evolving since our inception, creating a company that is equipped to meet the increasing challenges and opportunities of the industry's myriad niches.
Today, CEO Keld Hansen is the man behind BIBUS SINDBY. In 2007, BIBUS AG took over the company from the previous owner and the Sindby family, who have run the company over three generations since 1918. The company has continuously evolved with the customer clientele.

    Energy optimization

In September 2022, BIBUS SINDBY A/S initiated a process to review our electricity and gas consumption. With a new investment in lighting and a simple behavioural change, we managed to reduce our electricity consumption by over 40%.
We publish our consumption internally once a month to constantly keep each other up on better consumption habits.

Click here to see how our electricity consumption has evolved since 2018. If you want to know more about our initiatives, please feel free to contact us.

    We care about nature

At BIBUS SINDBY A/S, we have taken an active stance to reduce biodiversity loss. Specifically, we have established a large outdoor area with waterholes, insect hotels, sand baths, peat bogs and fruit trees for pollination.
You can follow the development here or do as our staff - take a walk along the natural paths, look around or take a break by the fire pit and let your senses have a different experience in a busy day.

Our "garden" is a joint project, so it's natural that our jubilarians choose the tree or shrub they want to have on our property in the future. This spring (2023) we will plant the next in line.
Externally, we are trying to get our suppliers to take an active interest in what exactly they can do. Alone we can't save the world - but together we can save a lot.

We always want to be inspired and challenged, so if you have any ideas on how we can do even better, please let us know.

    Our most important resource

is our employees! We want to cultivate the whole person. We do this by taking an interest in each other.
We want our employees to have a healthy family life, an active leisure life and a meaningful working life. In short: There are 24 hours in a day - so one third with full focus on the company should and must be enough. Then there's also the energy to act in concert when it's occasionally required.

We want to attract young people and we want everyone to have equal rights to education and careers, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability or gender. We are currently doing this by supporting young female handball players to combine elite sport and education. You can read more about this on our website under sponsorships

Our values in a few words

At BIBUS SINDBY A/S we take the word DECENCY very seriously. We know that is an older, slightly outmoded word, but it covers our way of looking at the world, in all its aspects.

    • We cooperate only with suppliers that comply with the applicable environmental regulations, so we secure the future generations
    • We strongly dissociate ourselves from forced- and child-labor
    • We support that everyone, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, or gender, must be guaranteed equal opportunities
    • We visit our suppliers and partners regularly, to ensure that the above-mentioned points are part of the common values
    • Our values are given higher priority than short-term profit chase, as it has been shown, in the long run, will lead into better overall results.

You can read our Code of Conduct for more information about our guidelines

    BIBUS

Together with our partners, directors and employees, we have built on the foundation laid by graduate engineer
Hans Bibus in 1947, and which has been further expanded and developed by his son Felix Bibus.

From being solely a steel company without its own warehouse, each company has evolved over the decades more and more towards its current three business segments: technology, materials and electronics. The same core competencies have been continued in all three segments: engineering, logistics and service to varying degrees - depending on the business area.

The added value that we produce and perform for our customers has fundamentally changed over the decades, but we have always focused on meeting the extensive and changing needs with relevant services internationally. International advances in communications, and the associated "general" knowledge of foreign sourcing, have triggered and facilitated the first steps towards further development of new firm-specific expertise. The addition of new technological products requiring explanation or engineering has slowly replaced the pure steel trade. From being a single company, the establishment of a group was now complete.

Over the years of successful growth, it became apparent that the Swiss market alone was too small. With the dissolution of borders in Europe, and in particular with the fall of the "Iron Curtain" in Eastern Europe, the strategy for growth beyond the borders of Switzerland is shaped. The simultaneous internationalisation of the activities of our formerly exclusively Swiss customers, as well as their relocation elsewhere, supported its implementation.
The care of existing customers and the acquisition of new customers and partners in new markets shape the activities of our subsidiaries, new - both in terms of customers and supply partners. The increasingly strong BIBUS Group has expanded in Eastern and Western Europe by establishing new branches.

The product range is not the same in all subsidiaries. But each company is characterised by the same core competencies: engineering, logistics, service - and all companies have access to know-how and resources from the entire group. A concept that has led - and will lead in the future - to long-lasting and successful partnerships for customers, supply partners and employees. We are all expanding further with new products, new markets, new relationships. Worldwide sourcing and production

BIBUS SINDBY sources goods from more than 50 countries and has 25 agents around the world. Based on our experience and knowledge we work and trade globally, applying a set of environmental and ethical norms, which have been developed in almost 100 years.

We know our markets, so the customer need not worry about doing business with us or using our products. Following the sales of the business to BIBUS AG we had our own sales force representing us in 29 countries dotted all over Europe and Asia, which has consolidated our market position even further.

    We will find a solution

Our employees often work closely with customers to find the ideal solution. We attend business fairs all over the world to make sure we are up to date with the latest products. This is also a way of building up a big and global network of suppliers and business contacts in general.

Every year we work together with customers to develop more than 400 new products, either custom-made or for inclusion in our own range. This decision is made by mutual agreement for each individual project and depends on what is thought the most beneficial option for both parties.

We look forward to working with you.

  • BIBUS

Together with our partners, directors and employees we continue working in the vein of the foundations put down by Dipl. Ing. Hans Bibus in 1947, whose business acumen has been continued by his son, Felix Bibus.

From the humble beginnings, when the company solely dealt with the steel industry and had no store facilities of its own, our activities have changed over the past decades towards focusing on engineering, in particular technology, materials and electronics. Our main competencies also run through the techniques, logistics and services we use, tailored to a particular business area.

Carrying out tasks for our customers has always added value to the service we offer – it is only the way in which we do it that has changed. We are continuously trying to keep abreast of an ever-changing international environment to make sure we can fulfil customers’ requirements. Global progress within communication and IT has opened new channels for us to explore when looking to source new products, and it has made it easier for us to build up new product knowledge, adding to the pool of expertise within the company. New technological products so sophisticated that they require detailed explanations or an engineering background to be understood have gradually replaced the less complex steel products. One single company has now turned into a group of companies.

As a result of growth the company could not sustain itself by working in just one market: Switzerland. Expansion became possible as a result of changes to the borders in Europe, in particular the East European countries, and a strategy for expansion beyond Switzerland was born. The implementation of this strategy was helped by the change within the previously purely Swiss companies, who simultaneously started going global by outsourcing or moving abroad. Retention of existing and gain of new customers and partners in new markets are at the core of our activities within our subsidiaries, not just in Switzerland. Our expanded customer base is now well established, and there is a documented trail of customer relations and additions – both customers and suppliers. The group is going from strength to strength within both Eastern and Western Europe by adding further companies.

The product range differs from subsidiary to subsidiary, although all companies share the same core competencies within technology, logistics and service, and have access to know-how and resources from the whole group. This concept has so far and will in future lead to longterm and successful relationships with customers, suppliers and employees. We continue to expand our product range, markets and business partners.

  • History of BIBUS SINDBY

BIBUS SINDBY A/S (formerly known as A/S H. Sindby & Co.)  is a sound and well-established import business and wholesaler, with 100 years of expertise and knowledge built up around purchase and development of quality products, whose customer base can be found mainly within industry and the automotive industry.

Common sense and quality are the keywords in every aspect of running our business.

From the outset we have continuously been developing and changing into a company that is ready to cope with new challenges and take on new opportunities presented by countless niches within industry.

Managing Director Keld Hansen is the man behind BIBUS SINDBY today. In 2007 BIBUS AG took over the business from the previous owner and the Sindby family, who had been running the business since 1918 for more than three generations. The business has continuously developed alongside its customer base.

The aim has always been to spot new products, which could be added to the range of goods on offer – for the benefit of customers and our business. This aim is still at the heart of everything we do at BIBUS SINDBY as well as BIBUS.

    The start of a succes

The founder of the company Hans Sindby, born Sivertsen in Ribe 1876, founded after his apprenticeship an independent construction company with its own sawmill. Hans Sindby had a big preference for everything new, and in 1908 he was the first in the area around Ribe that had a Nimbus motorbike. The motorbike was used diligent to his many errands in the neighbourhood and after a while most people got used to the stove machine. Even the livestock at the farms failed to stampede, which made it much easier for Hans Sindby to sell a new barn to the farmer without the necessity of catching cattle before and after the meeting.

Until the First World War there were several public buildings in Southern Jutland where you could see a sign with the name H. Sivertsen. But when the war broke out Sivertsen became very active on the Danish-minded side and helped several prisoners of war to escape from the camps in the border area and he found some places where they could stay on farms in Southern Jutland. This went very well until the year 1916, where Hans Sindby and his wife had to leave Southern Jutland and move to Horsens for a shorter period of time and then (1918) on to Copenhagen, where he established A/S H. Sindby & Co. the 17th of November 1918, specializing in furniture fittings and accessories.

The company grew rapidly until and a little into 1920, but when Norway stopped import of furniture, the business was seriously threatened, and they turned towards the motor industry, since the company had a lot of agencies with many product lines within this area. Hans Sindby travelled on his own around in the country with his product program, and the success was so great that in 1926 it was necessary to hire two representatives one of which was Hans Nygård, who then was the face of the company in Jutland through 36 years.
